Clawing its way to the top: Upgraded Jaguar could be No. 1 supercomputer
OAK RIDGE - Just outside the downstairs computer room at the National Center for Computational Science, there's a simply framed certificate that recognizes Jaguar, a Cray XT5 system, as No. 2 on the list of the World's Top 500 Supercomputers. The date on the certificate is Nov. 17, 2008.
The Oak Ridge National Laboratory computer remained No. 2 when a subsequent list was released six months later, but there's reason to believe that the next time around - when the new Top 500 list is revealed in November - that Jaguar will grab the top spot.
